Carbolytic Materials Company Makes Black “Green”

Reclaimed Carbon Black Alternative Saves the Environment, Resources, and the Bottom Line

Maryville, MO (May 28, 2008) – Carbolytic Materials Company (CMC), a carbon black alternative manufacturer headquartered in St. Louis, recently announced that their proprietary ApexCM™ carbon black replacement material is both a cost-effective and environmentally sound alternative to traditional carbon black.

“ApexCM is not only a cost-effective option for rubber and plastics applications, it’s also environmentally friendly,” said Raymond Riek, President of CMC. “Our process accepts scrap tires and recovers three distinct product streams with no unusable byproducts.”

The CMC process utilizes scrap tires in a unique, controlled environment that generates no odors or emissions, while collecting gas (vapor), oil, and solid streams as finished products. The result of this process is to return all materials to their original state as oil, gas and the reinforcing carbon that becomes ApexCM. As an added benefit, the oil and gas that are produced are useable as fuel, thus achieving the ultimate goal of recycling the whole tire.

At their new manufacturing facility in Maryville, CMC will process more than 15,000 tons of tires yearly to produce at least 5000 tons of their proprietary ApexCM carbon black replacement material. Each ton of ApexCM represents 380 tires recycled and 760 gallons of oil saved. It also represents more than 3800 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions kept out of the atmosphere. The reclaimed carbon black can be used in automotive, agricultural, construction, and industrial-equipment applications. It is a low-cost alternative to traditional carbon black and can be used to reinforce rubber and tint plastics.
